EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As anticipated, cyber-attacks have continued to dominate headlines with several high-profile ransomware attacks making significant impacts against industries around the globe, including an attack against the healthcare industry, impacting the lives of many. This also highlights the lack of morals cyber-criminals operate with, showing that no industry is out of scope when it comes to making money.

We have continued to see an increasing trend in spear-phishing attacks as well as business email compromise (BEC), utilised by threat actors to increase their chances of success when attempting to gain initial access to their target network. Additionally, the effort these groups put into their emails and website designs also appear to be increasing, making the malicious emails and fake websites much more difficult to distinguish from their legitimate counterparts, and therefore requiring much more diligence and a better understanding when it comes to individual knowledge of such techniques.
