Cable operators use PacketCable networks, built on top of DOCSIS (data over cable service interface specifications) cable modem infrastructure, to provide a wide range of multimedia services, including telephony.
Ideal for cable operators, the OKEFORD Media Platform can support PacketCable 1.5 based on MGCP and PacketCable 2.0 based on IMS (IP multi-media sub-system) with SIP, NETANN and VoiceXML. In PacketCable 1.5 network-based call signaling (NCS), a softswitch is commonly used to control the media server using a control interface called MGCP (media gateway control protocol).
The OKEFORD Media Platform includes an MGCP/PacketCable NCS interface to enable the control of media resources for delivering announcements and user services to PacketCable subscribers. Moreover the OKEFORD can concurrently interface to MGCP and SIP allowing controlled migration from legacy services as the network evolves. Acting as an MRF (media resource function) it is commonly used to provide telephony services to cable subscribers such as:
Such applications are developed by operators, or 3rd party system integrators and OEMs.
