IMS Migration

The promise of next-generation networks has been much discussed within the telephony industry for more than a decade.

Okeford Applications -IMS Migration

While the majority of fixed-line networks are still time division multiplexed (TDM) there are clear signs that infrastructure is now migrating from TDM to an all IP core. Similarly in wireless cellular networks, operators are already adopting next-generation standards like 3GPP IMS (IP multimedia sub-system) while in cable, operators are moving from PacketCable 1.5 to PacketCable 2.0, again an IMS-based architecture.

The OKEFORD Media Platform simplifies the operator’s migration strategy. It acts as an Intelligent Peripheral in TDM networks allowing control via SS7 signaling in IN and AIN networks and accelerates application development via use of VoiceXML.

It can also interface to an IP network acting as an IP-Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) media resource function (MRF), allowing migration to next-generation wireline, wireless and cable networks as needed, even connecting to multiple network types and multiple signaling protocols to span new and old network architectures.

As an IMS MRF the OKEFORD Media Platform interacts using SIP, RTP, NETANN and VoiceXML allowing operators to build on legacy investment without major rework and enabling non-disruptive change and enabling re-use of 3rd party applications originally built for legacy networks.
