Telesoft Technologies' HINTON Abis Probe allows system integrators (SIs) and OEMs to build location-based services applications with a geographic twist that reduces frustration and helps people get more out of life. Examples include:

  • Tourist information on historic buildings, points of interest etc
  • Travel bulletins (train, plane, boat, coach) as you arrive at station or terminal
  • Find me nearest X (hotel, garage, restaurant etc)
  • Cellular advertising
  • E911 solutions
  • Traffic planning
  • Location-based alerting (tsunami warnings etc)

The HINTON Abis Probe provides an independent network overlay rather than using the installed network equipment allowing dedicated power to track multiple subscribers in real time. It passively monitors the radio access network of a 2G, 2.5G or 3G cellular telecommunications network to provide data to applications allowing the generation of accurate location information on subscribers. In a GSM network the A Interfaces are monitored to extract cell ID & sector information which will give location to the nearest base-station and sector (usually one of three) within that base station. The Abis interfaces may also be monitored to feedback signal strength and direction information of a particular subscriber, further refining location. In a 3G UMTS network the same information may be obtained using the luB, luCS & luPS interfaces, with equivalent functionality also available for CDMA and CDMA2000 networks.

The HINTON Abis Probe enables a network-based location solution that works with any handset within any network allowing service providers to reach all subscribers, even those with the lowest cost pre-paid tariff handsets. This allows mass tracking and mass alert applications – such as automated public service tsunami or earthquake warnings – reaching any handset in a given geographic location, as well as targeted applications based on area and subscriber identity for value-added services such as location-based advertising.

Telesoft Technologies has worked with telephony operators, SIs and OEMs since 1989 installing telephony equipment into core networks. Its signaling protocol software is used in many networks by over 250 operators in over 100 different countries ensuring both a wide variety of protocol support and robustness through use in a variety of networks.
