Telcordia Technologies recently announced that it has used the OKEFORD Media Platform to provide media services in Aircel’s Pan-India GSM mobile network. As part of the Telcordia Real-Time Charging solution the OKEFORD Media Platform provides the interactive voice prompt and responses associated with the automated prepaid system. Deployed in just five months, the solution supports the introduction of interactive, real-time services and tariff plans across Aircel’s Pan-India cellular network.
The OKEFORD is a powerful carrier-grade media platform used by operators, carriers and application developers to rapidly develop and launch advanced interactive voice applications in IP-Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), SIP, 2G/3G wireless, cable, and wireline networks. Multiple application interfaces allow new SIP and VoiceXML services to be quickly introduced whilst retaining legacy services via CAMEL, WIN, INAP and MGCP interfaces.
A case study focused on India is available showing the complexities of deploying media services across this market. These include the number of languages that have to be supported in order to serve a population that speaks no common language and the speed of network expansion within the region which constantly strains infrastructure. The case study highlights that more than 110 million in-call and customer care announcements are made every day in up to 22 different languages from the OKEFORD Media Platforms installed in the country-wide network.
