Video key to mobile services growth
At the recent VAS ASIA conference in New Delhi it was clear that Video is the next big thing operators are aiming to drive into mainstream use. Operators in India have just spent $14.5Bn on the recent auction for 3G bandwidth and plan to start major roll-out this year. Video is the killer app they hope to snare customers and give them a return on this large investment.
Coinciding with the show ABI Research released a report on ‘Mobile Video Services’ estimating that while video services revenue will only amount to about $121 million this year, revenues will quickly grow to $2Bn worldwide by 2013. In emerging economies like India it is the emergence of 3G that will spark this revolution, while in mature economies 4G will further spur novel real-time video services. Video services included in the forecast include video telephony, video messaging, video sharing, video-on-demand and video downloads.
Telesoft Technologies MPAC Video Server Board enables system integrators to provide such services to mobile handsets. Supporting 3G-324M video streaming the board enables high value applications such as TV/video streaming to handsets, entertainment and IVVR applications. VAS applications providers are already using these video server boards to build these next generation video services for India and around the world.
As ABI Research points put though the growth in video is a worldwide phenomenon which will drive both emerging and mature markets of the next few years.
