Main Purpose(s) of Role
To work under the supervision of the Delivery Manager, Team Leader or appointed engineer to set up systems, test components or systems, integrate systems, replicate faults and develop robust and reliable software components based upon agreed requirements and design specifications to planned delivery timescales.
Training and supervision will be provided on how systems and components function and should operate. Training of Telesoft Technologies’ processes and procedures will also be provided either on the job or through training sessions.
Understand the system requirements and translating these into a design and validating that the design implementation meets these requirements is an important part of this role. Also developing code in line with the agreed design specifications within the guidelines of Telesoft Technologies’ software development processes.
Confirming through planned and adequate component testing that any component developed will meet the agreed system requirements is also a requirement for engineers across the organisation.
Duties, Tasks and Activities
- Setting up systems including the connection of test equipment.
- Producing design documents under supervision for components being developed based upon agreed requirements, system design specifications and relevant standards specifications.
- Implementing of design in the relevant programming language such as ‘C‘, a scripting language, or Java.
- Compliance with Telesoft Processes and Procedures to ensure that ISO 9001 and Tick-IT Requirements are met.
- Attending code reviews to verify implementation.
- Using software source code control systems in to manage software version control.
- Produce unit test specifications, write test scripts and run tests to validate achievement of agreed requirements in software components developed.
- Assist with system integration testing.
- Producing professional documentation in line with Telesoft Technologies’ processes, including Release Notes, Change Notes, BTRDs and User Guides as appropriate.
- Promptly correcting any deficiencies against Requirements identified either internally through Component or System Testing or externally by Customer.
- Use SAP system for Quality Management through Customer Service Notifications and Project Management through Timesheets recording.
- Attend meetings with other teams to agree customer requirements.
- Attend customer site for installation or fault diagnosis of systems

Key Qualifications
- Relevant degree such as engineering or computer science.
- Understanding of basic digital telecommunications.
- Experience in programming languages including ‘C’ and Java/JSP.
- Good understanding of System Architecture philosophies.
- Ability to understand, apply and review Telesoft Processes to ensure they remain valid in meeting the objectives set without unnecessary complication/bureaucracy.
- Ability to write design documentation and understand the use of message sequence charts and SDLs
- Experience with different operating systems including UNIX and Windows.
- Understanding of the methods of testing software.
